Sewing with Star Trek

I have been planning this quilt for my daughter for the past month. Bought the material then Bam! Eye surgery needed. Fast forward to today and I am finally: one reading the directions; and two trying them out. Now I read the directions before without trying it out, there is a definite disconnect between reading and doing. The pattern is Figgy Pudding by Basic Grey which includes trees, for her Dad the Forester, and court house steps, for my daughter the new lawyer. Match made in heaven! Obviously channeling her Dad as I went in to buy turquoise and red and came home with tons of green, what happened there (not what I really wanted to say more... like WTF).

So started the first tree block and OMG!! What a wasteful block! The trees are all folded over themselves. So made one anyway. Love!

Made another. Double love! So okay they live in Smithers so it is cold a good portion of the year. Double thickness could be okay. So made the big tree. Super double wasteful tree!! That's okay still in love.

Half the trees are done and I am in Star Trek Kobayashi Maru heaven! These have to be the most forgiving blocks ever.

"The seams don't line up"
"The seams don't line up...Captain"
"The seams don't line up Captain."
"It's okay."

""The background isn 't square Captain"
"Don't worry"

"Should I iron the wrinkled material?"
"that's okay" cause the fold in the trees hide it anyways.

Cut the material the wrong size.
"I don't suppose this is a problem either Captain?" Oh yeah, this is a problem, sound effects of skreetching to a full stop. Time to get the concentration back on the cutting board.

  4. Hello Pam,

Love the birds in the trees.

The rest of the family are in the next room watching Star Trek. I'm listening out for the first mention of seams.

    Love from England,

  9. I've made this pattern - AND I had trouble with the seams lining up, too… It is kinda wasteful but it depends on how you look at it. If you consider the extra fabric as a "special effect", it helps take the edge off the "wastefulness"… :-) It's a fun pattern but it will make you mental when you try to decide how to quilt it. Haha!

It looks great so far - neat fabric choices! Hope your eyes are doing well. :-)
